Obama State Of The Union Speech: Full Text Script

Last night I watched Obama's speech in the State of the Union through TV.  I was very impressed with the speech; he is passionate and conficence with what he is doing. One of the policies he is most concerning is environmental policy. He stressed why the United States should enact a policy for clean energy and energy efficiency. Here is what he said  last night, "I know there have been questions about whether we can afford such changes in a tough economy; and I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change. But even if you doubt the evidence, providing incentives for energy efficiency and clean energy are the right thing to do for our future - because the nation that leads the clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the global economy. And America must be that nation."

  1. Hyeonja,

This part of Obama's speech caught my attention too. He specifically mentioned putting more Americans to work by building clean energy facilities, and giving rebates to Americans who make their homes more energy efficient, which supports clean energy jobs. And to encourage these and other businesses to stay within our borders, it’s time to finally slash the tax breaks for companies that ship our jobs overseas and give those tax breaks to companies that create jobs in the United States of America. I was explaining to my nine year old son how this could help stimulate our economy and help the environment.

  2. Hi Martin,

Thanks for your comment. Obama's speech shows his willingness to enforce environmental policy through various strategies such as reducing taxes to the companies producing or using clean energy. We clearly assume that what a twenty first century environmental movement looks like through his speech; it moves toward an opposite way from the ex-president Bush administration which was conservative in environmental policy and focused on economic growth. His speech is quite persuasive to educate the public why the United States has to focus on the policy of clean energy related with economic benefits. I am really excited to watch how progressively the President Obama leads the United States to the top of the global environmental management in a few years.

  3. Hi~,

I thought about how much benefit to produce clean energy can bring. To pay the cost in designing and implementing the clean energy policy or program is not ambiguous. However, the benefit estimate is avaiable?, As future policy analyst,I am very curious about the measure.
